Riotous British farce opens at Red Barn Aug. 11
Directed by Gemini award winner David Gardner,
No Sex Please, We're British, one
of the funniest shows ever to come from Britain, opens at the Red Barn Theatre,
Wednesday August 11, 1999.
This classic, laugh a minute British farce, ran in London for over eight years and will
have audiences rolling in the aisles. A young bride of an assistant bank manager innocently
maii-order Scandinavian glass ware, but receive in return a veritable flood of X-rated
material. In trying to solve the problem, matters are considerably complicated by the
bank manager's mother, his boss, a bank inspector and a well meaning muddled friend, all
of which works up to an hilarious ending.
David Gardner has assembled a stirring cast headed by
Sean Power who appears at the Barn for a second time.
Power was the lead in the farce High Temperature
three years ago. Since then, Sean has appeared in several
New York productions, including in The Irish Rep Theatre's (New York)
The Shadow of a Glunman.
Kevin Riordan plays Peter Hunter, the Bank Manager. Mr. Riordan has played in film, TV,
radio and stage and is a playwright in his own right. For the Birds,
Death Taxes and Murphy, and a Good Irish Name are among his credits.
Leanna Brodie plays the bank manager's wife.
Sean Power is Brian Runnicles, The Chief Cashier,
Wally Michaels, the district manager, Jim Neiley, the bank inspector, Steven Coombes,
a policeman, and Sarah Martyn and Virlana Martino play two "ladies of the evening".
This amazing cast is rounded out by Elva Mai Hoover who plays Eleanor Hunter,
Peter's mother. Miss Hoover joins the cast from her recently sold-out success as
Anne Langton in The Bush Ladies at the Tarragon Extra Space.
Elva Mai had a continuing role on Road to Avonlea, and appeared in
Ann's Story. She recently completed the role of Margaret in the short film
Dead and Buried, and fans of Riverdale can see her as Beth in the
daytime drama.
