There is one happy note to report. In the midst of this madness, Sean Power and Sean Devine, who happen to be the only two Canadian actors in the cast, manage to turn in bracingly entertaining performances. Devine is wonderfully absurd in dual roles as a francophone storm trooper and drinkaddled former prime minister, and Power brings a manic energy to his role of the punk rocker Maudit. Even in New York, the French manage to emerge victorious.
Fiddler Sub Terrain plays at La MaMa Theater in Manhattan until Jan. 28. Information: 212-475-7710.
